Hey, thank you for joining us. We are going to be talking about internalized capitalism, and we are going to be talking about internalized capitalism with regards to burnout.
Internalized capitalism is very much the idea that what you perform, what you produce, is tied to your self worth. these are some very clear indicators. If you feel bad, if you feel guilty for having a nap, or if you feel guilty for getting sick.
Or if you feel guilty for calling in sick or you don't call in sick, even though you are sick when you prioritize your [00:02:00] work or working over your well being.Whether you're running a company and you're going into work when you are sick or you're a stay at home mom and you are hard at work cleaning the house, even though you have a really bad cold and you could really use a day in bed.
When you notice that you have thoughts of I should be doing more, or I should have done this and this and this, or you go to bed thinking about all of the things that you didn't get to during the day, rather than all of the things that you accomplished during the day. It could be that push, that drive, that I should be further along right now.
I should be further along by now. I should have been further into the project. I need to have all nighters. I am behind [00:03:00] in life.
It could be that you are in burnout, you have chronic illnesses, or you have disabilities that kind of, you feel, help prevent you from Moving at a faster pace, right? These are all clear indications of internalized capitalism. You are the type of person that you work and you work and you work, whatever that is, whether it's work or it's housework or you just, you go hard into everything that you do and it's almost like you're white knuckling it through.
You are, you are working so hard that you put Your work, whatever that work is over your wellbeing, say you're cleaning out the garage and your body is fatigued, your back is hurting, your knees are hurting, and you were, your body was [00:04:00] done a long time ago, but you refuse to stop until you are done with that project.
A few other ways to know that you are feeling internalized capitalism is if you feel bad or guilty when you're happy or you feel joy. You are. Prioritize and put your work over your relationships that are really important to you. Maybe your work, you're prioritizing your work over your spouse or your kids, right?
So these are all ways to know and understand that you have internalized capitalism. you're not alone. This is very common, especially in the U. S. So now is your time and your opportunity. So now is the time where you start asking yourself these really healthy questions of Is [00:05:00] this the way I genuinely want to live my life?
And is this going to help me recover from burnout? And moving forward in my healing journey, How am I going to take care of myself? What decisions am I going to make? And how am I going to support myself in letting go of internalized capitalism, right? So, It may be that you start to put more of a priority on your loved ones and spending time with them, spending one on one deep connection time with your loved ones.
It may be that You allow yourselves, your, yourself less hours that you work or more breaks that you work, or you give yourself more vacations in the year. However that looks like for [00:06:00] you, decide how you want to start changing and implementing things to let go of your internalized capitalism.
